Paramore, 3OH!3, Slash And Others Try To Explain 'Lost' — Hilariously

Rock stars attempt to summarize the inscrutable show before the finale.

This weekend, "Lost" fans will be gathered around their television sets to dissect all of the clues and evaluate the final scenes of the twisty, puzzle-filled show, whose finale airs Sunday at 9 p.m.

But there may be a few of you out there who haven't been as invested in the series' six seasons and infinite possibilities and haven't had time to catch up with the 118 episodes that preceded Sunday's finale. Luckily, we reached out to some of the biggest "Lost" fans (and non-fans) in the rock world to help out. We asked everybody a simple question: "Can you explain what 'Lost' is about?"

As fans of the program are aware, that's a pretty loaded inquiry. Still, most everybody was game. "It's about people on an island," Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams offered. "They're on the island, and they get off the island, but they're still on it. And they go back on, and someday they'll be happy, whether they're on it or not."

But the question confused some. For example, 3OH3's Nathaniel Motte got "Lost" confused with another iconic television series. "It's pretty funny," he said. "They all date each other and go to this coffee shop called the Central Perk." (For anybody confused, that's "Friends.")

(Read Blink-182 frontman Mark Hoppus' own words about his conversion to "Lost" fandom.)

For others, the very idea of explaining "Lost" reduced people to little more than gutteral noises and exclamations. Such was the case with Stone Sour and Slipknot member Corey Taylor. "There's a guy, and there's this thing, and what happens is this BLUH!" he said.

Still, perhaps the most direct explanation of the show came from an unlikely source. When asked what "Lost" was about, former Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash admitted that he had never watched any of it.

But when asked to hazard a guess, he replied, "Something's not where it should be." That, quite frankly, might be the best response we've heard.

Can you summarize "Lost" in a single sentence? Try it out in the comments.

We're celebrating the long-awaited conclusion of "Lost" all this week at MTV News! We'll be bringing you exclusive interviews, insightful commentary and, in true "Lost" fashion, maybe even a surprise or two. Head over to the MTV Movies Blog, where our "Lost" Awards continue all this week, and make sure to tune in on Sunday night for our series finale live blog!

My Chemical Romance's 'Sing' Is 'Propaganda,' Glenn Beck Says

Fox News pundit singled out the song, performed on 'Glee' in February, during his broadcast Thursday.

Having apparently run out of things to terrify your parents (and your aunt in Arizona) with, conservative radio host/Fox News pundit Glenn Beck is now turning his attention to My Chemical Romance and their song "Sing," which he describes as "propaganda."

During Thursday's broadcast of his self-titled daily Fox News show, Beck — who in the past has vilified everyone from Barack Obama to "reform rabbis" — launched into an attack that was, at first, about the content of the TV show "Glee" (which he admitted he watched in "stunned horror and admiring awe"), but then quickly segued into a dissection of "Sing's" lyrics, which Beck read aloud with fervent terror.

"Pay attention to the lyrics," he cautioned. "This is propaganda ... it's an anthem saying 'Join us.' How can you and I possibly win against that?"

Beck was bringing up "Sing's" lyrics (which he attributed to "Chemical Romance") because, as he warned his viewers, our children "are not tethered to anything" and parents "have to be über vigilant" about the shows they watch, since "our whole culture right now is set up for you and the values you grew up on to lose."

"You don't have to live by the standards that society has set," he said. "You know what is right."

"Sing" was performed on an episode of "Glee" back in February, and My Chemical Romance has since reissued the song to raise money for the Red Cross' ongoing disaster relief efforts in Japan, in part because, as they told MTV News last week, they noticed their fans had begun using the lyrics to send messages of hope to the nation.

"We talked about something that we could do, and at first we were thinking about writing a new song to raise money for charity," MCR guitarist Ray Toro said. "And on Twitter, something we had seen was #SINGitforjapan, and it was kids starting this Twitter feed, writing messages of hope. And that really inspired us, and we just set to work, and after a couple weeks, we were able to pull this thing together."

A spokesperson for the band did not respond to MTV News' request for comment on Beck's statements, but in a tweet Thursday, Toro wrote simply, "Mission accomplished," and included a link to Beck's segment on the song. Guitarist Frank Iero was less polite, tweeting, "Yay! F--- that dude's face with Obama's birth certificate."

Tom Felton Reveals 'Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes' Character Details

'People aren't going to be cheering for me in this film,' he tells MTV News of his role in the prequel.
By Eric Ditzian

On Wednesday morning, Tom Felton walked us through "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" as part of MTV News' Summer Movie Preview. Now, Felton continues the season's blockbuster sneak peeks with his insights into "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," the new franchise film in which he stars, which both reboots the mythology and provides a prequel to the story first introduced in the late 1960s.

The new, Rupert Wyatt-directed film features James Franco as a scientist testing an Alzheimer's cure on our simian friends. But an unexpected mutation leads to a super-smart ape population, which spells trouble for the human race. Felton plays the son of the owner of a facility in which the apes — CGI creations based on motion-capture technology from the digital effects house behind "Avatar" — are kept. Calling us up from his home in the U.K., Felton discussed his favorite scenes in the film, what it's like to work with actors in mo-cap suits playing apes and how his character fits into the overall story.

MTV: There'd been basically radio silence on "Apes," and then photos and video started to roll out a few weeks ago, followed by the trailer, which got a very positive reaction.

Tom Felton: Yeah, through Twitter I could tell the reactions were good. And just my own reaction as a fan, when I see a trailer like that, I get very excited. I watched it a hundred times. The special effects are ridiculous. The first question when I showed it to my friends was, "Wow, how did they get the monkeys so well trained?" I'm like, "None of them were real!" It's quite weird to see so much CG effects in the real world, not some computer-generated world like "Avatar."

MTV: It was also nice to see the tone wasn't jokey but rather dark and serious.

Felton: It was quite dark. I love that. A lot of people, when you say "Apes," they think of Tim Burton's one and [think] that is what this one is going to be like. It couldn't be further from the truth. This movie is set in the world that we know, rather than some alien-like planet. It's not that it's scary, but it is so much more realistic. There's a real sense that it could actually happen

MTV: This is what would happen if you put James Franco in charge of a lab of apes.

Felton: Oh, you know it. You know it! All hell would break loose.

MTV: It must also be nice to see yourself in a movie without Draco Malfoy's bleached-blond hair.

Felton: It's funny you say that, because the first time we went out to Vancouver for the screen tests, they had me there in the outfit and [director] Rupert was like, "I like it, but you need blond hair. I need you to look Californian." I was like, "Seriously? Really?" He was like, "Yes!" And I was like, "OK, if that's what you want." Then he digged me in the ribs and [said] he was just winding me up. So we got off to a good start, me and Rupert. But he was the first one to say we want you looking as different as possible. That was nice, because he wanted me based on what he'd seen previously in "Potter" but also something completely different.

MTV: Is there one scene that you're particularly excited about?

Felton: There were so many. You know, I'm used to "Potter" secrecy, but this is even more so. They've got me under lock and key on this one. There's no book, so no one knows the story. I had some great one-on-one scenes with Andy Serkis, who plays the lead ape, Caesar. Those were amazing, because not only was he doing the body movements flawlessly, but also facial expressions and sounds.

MTV: Was it always guys in motion-capture suits or did you ever have to act opposite a tennis ball or the thin air?

Felton: It's such a strange system. They film it all with the stunt performers who have learned for six months how to move like an ape. It's actually quite scary, watching a dozen men bouncing around the room like apes. They'd film that three times, then we'd film one blank where it's just the humans, then they match up stuff. They have an army of guys with notepads marking all sorts of numbers and graphs and stuff. I don't know how they pull it all off in the end. It's crazy!

MTV: Tell us about your character. You play Brian Cox's son?

Felton: Yeah, when Caesar, our lead ape, gets too big for James Franco's character to look after anymore, they have to put him into a facility. Brian Cox, who plays my dad, owns it, and I work there. Needless to say, I'm supposed to be looking after the apes, but I really don't do that job very well. I don't get on well with them and I'm not that friendly with them. I'm kind of what instigates Caesar's revolt against humans. Before that, he only knew James Franco's character. He thought all humans were going to be friendly and nice. It's through my father and my character that he learns the perils of humanity and how bad we really are.

MTV: So, after Draco, you play another bad guy?

Felton: Well, he's not a good guy. People aren't going to be cheering for me in this film, either. It's villainy, but on a different level.

'American Idol' In 60 Seconds: Casey Abrams' Last Showmance

The Carole King songbook results in Abrams' second elimination of the season.
By Jim Cantiello

Casey Abrams and Haley Reinhart

This week on "American Idol," the top six sang from the Carole King songbook, but the real theme of the night was showmances: Casey and Haley! Lauren and Scotty! Lauren and ... this dude [random audience guy]! Lauren and Steven Tyler! [Clip of Steven Tyler with a little blond toddler on his lap.] Damn, girl, are you trying to audition for "The Real World" or something?

But if we're talking musical promiscuity, Casey Abrams was the real "Hi De Ho." Pianos, trumpets, saxes, harmonicas ... The only thing he didn't hook up with was a melody.

Sit, Ubu, sit! Good dog. [Footage of Casey screaming plays with the sound of the Ubu "bark" from that '80s sitcom vanity plate.]

James Durbin had his best week yet but the brightest star on "Idol" was crazy Penny Marshall. [Jim is in a blond wig and sunglasses]. She is my inspiration.

I want to be her friend, I want to be Scotty's friend, and I really want to be Haley's fu-uh-riend, too.

Yo, Randy, why don't we "turn the other cheek" to Thursday night's results show, where Jimmy Iovine gave his two cents, and Haley told him where he could shove his two cents!

[Clip: Seacrest introduces Crystal Bowersox, but then the camera cuts to a burly male harmonica player.]

Whoa, Crystal really let herself go, didn't she? But Arrested Development hasn't aged a bit! [Footage of Bruno Mars and his 45-piece backing band, who were all sitting on a couch.]

And results!

There's your fake bottom three [the last contestants standing], there's your real bottom three [Lauren, Casey and Jacob sitting on the couch from earlier in the episode].

[Jim holds out a microphone as if he's a sports reporter on the field after the Super Bowl.] Hey, Casey Abrams! You just got cut from "Idol" for the second time. What are you going to do now?

[Jim shouts in a Casey voice.] "I'm going to Creepy World!" [Footage of him grabbing girls by the back of the neck and pulling them in for a kiss during his farewell performance.]

Ding!

B.o.B's 'Nothin' On You': From Near-Miss To Grammy Nominee

Record of the Year contender almost didn't make its way to B.o.B.
By James Montgomery

Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images

Perhaps the most remarkable thing about B.o.B's "Nothin' On You" was not its chart-topping success, its earnestness or the fact that it served as an introductory course in two of the year's biggest artists. It's the fact that the song wasn't meant for B.o.B at all.

Yes, before the song — which is nominated for three Grammys, including Record of the Year — found its way to B.o.B, it was originally intended for Lupe Fiasco. Seems the folks at Atlantic Records felt that it would be a perfect fit for the Chicago MC, and they insisted that its producers, the Smeezingtons, send it their way. But, as fate would have it, one of the men responsible for shaping B.o.B's career intervened. And the rest was history.

"I was actually working on a session in Chung King [Studios], and [Atlantic Records chairman] Craig Kallman called me during that session with that particular track to work on it for Lupe Fiasco," Jim Jonsin, who signed B.o.B to his Rebel Rock imprint, told MTV News in May. "I told Craig, 'I like the song a lot. It's a smash and could be somebody's single. But it's not Lupe's record. I need this record for B.o.B. Please give this record to B.o.B.' I guess they went through whoever they went through, convinced whoever they needed to, and it got to B.o.B."

Turns out, Jonsin's instincts were right. "Nothin' On You" found its way to B.o.B, and would head to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in May 2010, where it stayed for two consecutive weeks. Bouyed by the success of the single, B.o.B's debut record, The Adventures of Bobby Ray, would open at #1 on the albums chart, and 2010 officially had its first breakout hip-hop star.

And if the whole situation seems a bit, well, magical, you're not alone. Seems that even the Smeezingtons — Bruno Mars, Phillip Lawrence and Ari Levine — were shocked by the fortuitous series of events that led to "Nothin' " topping the charts, and they admitted as much to MTV News.

"Me and Phil always had that hook," said Mars, who, of course, used the song to launch his own successful solo career. "So one day, our other partner ... Ari, he walked into the studio and said he programmed the drums [over]. It had this old-school hip-hop beat. I said, 'Gimme the piano,' and that was the first thing I started playing. Magically, that melody worked with this track we were doing."

Of course, B.o.B would go on to score more hits on his own — the ubiquitous "Airplanes," his duet with Paramore's Hayley Williams chief among them — one could argue that without the success of "Nothin' On You," none of those achievements would have been possible. You can chalk all of it up to magic, but, as he heads into Sunday's 53rd Grammy Awards, B.o.B prefers to give credit to the song's sweet-natured sincerity, which connected with fans in a way a lot of songs just don't. And, really, he's right about that too.

"Introducing B.o.B or Bobby Ray, it takes more than one song to do it," he said. "But I feel like this song is really genuine and really sincere, so I feel good about people finding out about me through 'Nothin' On You.' "

Are you rooting for "Nothin' On You" to win Record of the Year at the Grammys? Let us know in the comments!

Bruno Mars, B.o.B, Janelle Monae Turn In Throwback Grammy Set

Pompadour-sporting stars rock medley of 'Grenade,' 'Nothin' on You' and 'Cold War.'
By Mawuse Ziegbe

Bruno Mars headed into Grammy night on top, with seven nominations under his belt for his singing and songwriting efforts. He has already scored snaps for his studio work, but on Sunday night, the 25-year-old Doo-Wops & Hooligans crooner showcased his stage skills with fellow promising genre-bending stars B.o.B and Janelle Monáe.

Following a string intro, Mars helmed the keys and gently crooned a softer version of his #1 smash with B.o.B, "Nothin' on You." The ATL hitmaker then took the mic, rocking a dapper old-school look and adding a scholarly touch with a monocle as he sang and rhymed the lyrics. Monáe kept the menswear theme going in a voluminous cape, quietly chiming in at a clear podium as B.o.B turned to croon to her.

Check out pictures from the Grammy show here.

Suddenly, a faux mid-century black-and-white broadcast introducing Mars took over the screen, and then the live telecast switched to a retro two-tone look. Mars looked perfectly in place as he belted a slowed-down yet soul-injected version of his own #1 single "Grenade," with B.o.B on the piano. A crew of background singers helped transform the pop hit into a doo-wop effort, complete with a few stuttering dance steps; Mars even got on his knees during the bluesy arrangement in a move that would have made legendary funkateer James Brown proud.

Then Monáe stepped up for her ArchAndroid cut "Cold War" in her trademark button-down shirt-and-slacks outfit. Mars hopped on the drums as the lights flashed, fog rolled in and Monáe added her own vocal pyrotechnics to the mix. The songstress then took the performance from retro to rowdy by sailing into the audience for a brief crowd-surf as B.o.B strummed away on the guitar. The upstart trio's upbeat set scored a standing ovation.

Last year, Mars was floored when he first heard he'd racked up seven nods, but added that scoring accolades isn't even his favorite part of his hitmaking gig.

"The funnest part of our job is that we don't know who we're working with next," Mars told MTV News in December about working his songwriting and production crew the Smeezingtons. "We're fans and students of music, and we just love to work with whoever wants to work, whoever wants to write a song. Rock, hip-hop, R&B — we just want to do music. And we're happy just doing that."

What did you think of Bruno Mars' Grammy performance? Let us know in the comments!

'Breaking Dawn' Sex Scene 'Feels Like Real Love Scene,' Kristen Stewart Says

Sex was 'not necessarily vampire-y, which is good,' actress tells Entertainment Weekly.
By Jocelyn Vena

The countdown to "Breaking Dawn" is truly under way, and evidence of the excitement for the last "Twilight" flicks is popping up all over the place. In the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, Twi-hards are getting an in-depth look at the films, the first of which opens later this year.

"We shot everything — whether it's the lovemaking or the childbirth — as potent and powerful as it can be," director Bill Condon explains in the new issue. "It will be interesting to see whether there will be people who think it too disturbing for this universe."

Of course, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson star in some of the most anticipated scenes in the upcoming movies. One of those is the long-awaited sex scene between Bella and Edward, stills of which hit the Internet, much to the dismay of those involved with making the film. "It feels like a real love scene, not necessarily vampire-y, which is good," Stewart said.

Fans are also eager to see how Bella's painful birth scene will be played out. "It's funny because when [the PG-13 issue] comes up, everybody thinks it's all about the sex," the actress said. "The birth is really effective, and I've heard it really hits you in the face. But what could it have been? It could have been shocking and grotesque, because that's how it was written in the book. ... I would have loved to have been puking up blood."

Mostly, though, audiences will be excited to see the "Breaking Dawn" wedding scene, the moment that leads to all those others. "It was one of the coolest things that I've done," Stewart recalled. "There was a certain point when I walked on set, and I saw everyone from the entire cast sitting there in the pews, about to do their bit. And it was just so perfect for me in that moment. It was so emotional in such a real way. I literally felt like thanking them for coming."

The magazine also features some exclusive photos from the movie. Those shots include intimate moments between Jacob and Bella, photos of the Denali clan and one of Jacob running through the rain. (With a shirt on — sorry, ladies!)

"Everybody is always complaining to me that I don't have to wear the contacts, I don't have to wear the white makeup or wear wigs and all that stuff. And I'm like, 'I'm the one in the freezing rain and cold not wearing a shirt!' " Taylor Lautner says in the issue. "I paid my dues in 'New Moon' and 'Eclipse.' "

Sure, Bella and Edward have some big moments in these flicks, but Jacob also meets the love of his life, their baby girl, Renesmee. "There were many times I walked up to Stephenie [Meyer] and asked her, 'What exactly is imprinting?' " Lautner said. "It's still a very confusing thing for me, so don't ask."

Chris Brown's F.A.M.E. Album To Debut At Top Of Chart

Record is projected to sell upward of 250,000 units in its first week, according to Billboard.
By Jocelyn Vena

Despite his headline-making outburst following an interview with "Good Morning America," for which he later apologized in an interview with BET's 106 & Park, it seems that Chris Brown's latest release, F.A.M.E., is slated to jump to the top of the album chart next week.

According to Billboard, the album will sell approximately 250,000 to 300,000 copies by the time the week ends. It marks the first time Brown has had one of his albums debut at #1. His previous efforts, Chris Brown, Exclusive (2007) and 2009's Graffiti, debuted at #2, #4 and #7, respectively.

Brown's overwhelming chart success may come as a surprise to experts, who believed that given all the negative headlines this week, Brown's behavior may have turned off potential fans. "I definitely think this is a huge step back for him," Ian Drew, senior music editor at Us Weekly, said. "It was a huge mistake. You control how you react. He didn't react the right way.

"[But] there's always a way back ... My advice to him would be: Just don't do any interviews and put out a strong record and let it speak for itself," Drew continued. "Let the music do the talking. Let that be the statement."

Brown isn't the only new release on the charts next week. Jennifer Hudson's I Remember Me will hit the charts at #2 with around 160,000 units projected to be sold. The Strokes, who released their first new album in a half a decade, may potentially debut at #3, selling around 90,000 units with Angles. Adele, who held the top spot with her album 21, will be bumped to #5, with Kirk Franklin's Hello Fear hitting #4.

NEW YORK — At 7:30 p.m. on the nose, the house lights went down, the girls went crazy, and Z100's Jingle Ball 2010 got the party started Friday (December 10) for a rousing night of music and fun at Madison Square Garden.

Kim Kardashian, in a white body-hugging dress, kicked off the night's festivities by noting that it was her first time ever at MSG, then bringing Taio Cruz to the stage. He played "Break Your Heart" and "Dynamite," and for his track "Higher," he was joined by Travie McCoy, though the song usually features British pop princess Kylie Minogue.

Jesse McCartney was on hand to proudly invite Bruno Mars to the stage. The Grammy nominee played drums for an excited crowd.

He played "Billionaire," and the entire room sang along as McCoy joined him for their ode to getting famous. The crowd ate it up. He then slowed it down with "Grenade." The set ended with "Just the Way You Are" to the delight of the crowd.

Jay Sean beat-boxed, then helped introduce Paramore to the stage. The band brought some loud, boombastic rock to the show thanks to a set that included "Brick by Boring Brick."

"Anybody else care to join the party tonight?" frontwoman Hayley Williams asked the crowd before blaring out "Misery" and inviting a fan onstage to sing with her. They finished it off with "The Only Exception."

B.o.B was next to the stage. The rapper got real with his track "Don't Let Me Fall." Then the crowd went insane for "Magic." As if that didn't get the girls hyped enough, Bruno Mars returned for "Beautiful Girls."

"Everybody put your hands up," B.o.B told the crowd before playing his massive "Airplanes" with Williams by his side.

The crowd went nuts when Flo Rida introduced Selena Gomez for her dance-tastic performance of "Round and Round." Gomez looked like a true disco queen in her little black dress and heels.

She thanked Katy Perry for her next track, "Rock God," then got trancey for her song "A Year Without Rain," and ended her set with "Naturally," crediting it as the reason she got a spot on the radio tour.

The show took an adult contemporary and old school turn when Michael Buble arrived to croon tunes such as "Hollywood" and "Haven't Met You Yet," and for "Let it Snow," he got in the crowd and paid homage to the season, dusting MSG with snow confetti.

Katy Perry brought the girl power in her performance, which featured ballerinas, Christmas trees, Santa Clauses and Perry popping out of a gift box in a latex toy soldier costume for "Hot n Cold."

"This is Madison Square Garden!" she shouted to the crowd. "This is something I've dreamt about for a long time."

"This next song is about falling in love with a foreigner, like far away ... Not even in England," she said to introduce "E.T."

After a jazzy version of "I Kissed a Girl," she proudly proclaimed, "Let's dedicate this West Coast anthem to the East Coast right now," ending her performance with "California Gurls" as red and green confetti fell from the ceiling.

Pauly D prompted the loudest screams of the night when he introduced Enrique Iglesias. The Latin pop star played the clean version of "Tonight," followed by older jams such as "Escape" and "Hero," serenading a girl from the audience.

With the swooning complete, Iglesias ended with fan favorite "I Like It."

Kardashian returned, telling the crowd, "I think I'm catching a fever," before the night's most-anticipated performance: Justin Bieber.

In a plaid top and khakis, the teen star got his party started with "Somebody to Love." Bieber was in full swagga mode, dancing like a seasoned pro and getting the crowd hyped.

"The last time I was here for Jingle Ball, I had a broken foot, and this year, I'm here and both my limbs are working," he joked. "We shot a movie here, and it's coming out in February, and I think we should show you a preview."

The trailer transitioned to "Never Say Never." Bieber even brought out a surprise guest, Jayden Smith, to join him.

"I had someone who's really special to me, and I decided to bring him out," he then announced, calling for Sean Kingston for "Eenie Meenie." The girls went crazy as the pals went back and forth on the cut.

"I think I want to slow it down a little bit. My acoustic album had an extra song on it that's really important to me. But first, I need everyone to close their eyes and 'Pray,' " he said before the inspirational ballad.

He then teased the excited crowd, saying, "I think we should do one more song," and listing some of his track names.

He settled on "Baby." "Who wants to be my baby?" he asked. He ended the night with showers of fireworks and confetti, saying, "You guys are amazing."

Kids' Choice Awards 2011: The Show And Winners List

Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus awarded on slime-filled Nickelodeon night.

For 23 years, Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards has been an event in which celebrities can truly let loose. After all, it's hard to have an ego when you're getting covered in green slime or being inducted into the Arm Fart Hall of Fame (we're looking at you, Josh Duhamel).

Nick's 2011 awards show, which aired lived on the network Saturday from Los Angeles, kept with its tradition of stars finding themselves in some truly outrageous situations. Host Jack Black, who was at the helm for the third time (he last helped hand out those coveted orange kaleidoscope blimps in 2008), kicked things off with an over-the-top musical number. The funnyman, wearing a black leather jumpsuit with flames — the first of many quirky wardrobe changes — was joined by a group of dancers to perform his own rendition of the Black Eyed Peas' hit "I Gotta Feelin'."

Black then introduced the group, as the "Jack Black Eyed Peas," and joined them onstage for "The Time (Dirty Bit)." BEP, who later won the award for Best Music Group, then sang their next single, "Just Can't Get Enough."

The first award of the evening was given out to Johnny Depp, who won Favorite Movie Actor for his performance in "Alice in Wonderland." Depp, who emerged from backstage, told the kiddie crowd and voters it was "truly a pleasure to receive this award that comes from you guys. I appreciate it."

After apologizing for beating Black in the category, Depp told Nick viewers, "You guys are the future; take good care of us." The actor then proceeded to get in on the fun, sliming the group of young fans who stood at the foot of the stage.

Depp's stunt led to one of the evening's most memorable — and by far, funniest — moments when "Arthur" actor Russell Brand and "Modern Family" star Rico Rodriguez appeared onstage soon after to present the award for Favorite Voice from an Animated Movie (the blimp eventually went to Eddie Murphy, who got the crowd to sing him "Happy Birthday," for his role in "Shrek Forever After").

Before Brand and Rodriguez could even begin their banter at the podium, the freshly slimed youngsters began throwing the green, gooey mess at the two stars. In response to the mayhem, Brand declared, "I'm never having children."

Brand continued, as he guarded Rodriguez from the kiddie coup, "I am English! I am your leader! You must not do this, I am royalty! You are all going to juvenile hall. You children are going to prison. You are bad children!" Brand, who is voicing a character in the animated feature "Hop," cried that the moment was not in the script, then joked, "Johnny, I wished you'd drowned them."

They weren't the only stars to get slimed during the broadcast. Heidi Klum, who almost took a spill thanks to her sky-high heels, got hit, as did Jason Segel, who received a slime slushie courtesy of Jane Lynch. Even Snoop Doog — who joined pop-rock group and Nick stars Big Time Rush for their song "Boyfriend" — got doused in the green stuff.

As Willow Smith performed her hits "21st Century Girl" and "Whip My Hair," the 10-year-old was cheered on by her dad, Will Smith, and brother, Jaden Smith, who were in the audience.

The final big award of the evening went to Miley Cyrus, who won for Favorite Movie Actress for "The Last Song." The former "Hannah Montana" star attempted to put gossip to rest during her acceptance speech as she thanked her family for supporting her career.

Cyrus will no doubt get fans wondering about the status of her relationship with "Last Song" co-star and on-again, off-again beau Liam Hemsworth, whom she thanked for "helping me make movie magic" in the 2010 drama.

The Big Help Award, which was presented by Rosario Dawson, went to singer/actor Justin Timberlake for his devotion to charities, particularly the work he does with Shriners Hospital for Children. In between cracking jokes about burping and getting the crowd to cheer if they had ever helped anyone, Timberlake took the time to tell his young fans, "Your heart is the most beautiful part, so don't forget to use it."

In addition to telling kids they can do their part to help, even with major issues such as the crisis in Japan, the star said something bound to make any adult watching elated: "Listen to your parents!"

Finally, Kourtney and Kim Kardashian hit the stage to help give away the last award of the night for Favorite TV Show, which went to the kid-friendly Nickelodeon hit "iCarly."

Black kept a high energy throughout the show, including some interactions with his "Kung Fu Panda 2" character, Po, — one of which featured a cameo from Britney Spears in a pre-recorded segment. He ended the evening with a slime battle between himself and Jim Carrey, who made a surprise finale appearance.

B.o.B Says Fans Will 'Be Surprised' By His New Album

'You'll definitely see new music this year,' he says at South by Southwest.
    By James Montgomery

AUSTIN, Texas — B.o.B's debut disc topped the Billboard albums chart and spawned a pair of smash singles, and, in the process, transformed him from a hotly tipped underground artist to one of the brightest stars in hip-hop.

As he begins work on the follow-up to The Adventures of Bobby Ray, is it possible for him to top that album's success? Even he doesn't know the answer to that question — but he's willing to give it his best shot.

"I would have to parallel my album coming out to losing your virginity," he told MTV News at the South by Southwest festival. "The first time you have sex is way more exciting than the second time. Not that the second time isn't exciting, it's just ... the initial excitement of finally having that first album.

"I think that people will definitely be surprised at the music they hear on the second album," he added. "I don't think they would expect that coming from me."

And while details of the new album are still scarce — switching from sexual metaphors to sports metaphors, B.o.B said he's "just at the end of the first quarter" of the recording process — he's already planning to give fans a taste of his new material very soon.

"There's probably going to be some surprises. There's no telling what the next three quarters will be like," he said. "We should be seeing something very soon. Even if not an album, you'll definitely see new music this year."

And though he might be changing things up for album number two, B.o.B isn't going to stray far from the concept that brought him so much success with Bobby Ray: Specifically, avoiding any and all preconceived notions of what hip-hop should be. Which, in one way, is probably going to make his album feel very much like the first time.

"You should never get comfortable," he said. "I feel like, for me, I embrace everything."

What do you expect B.o.B's next album to sound like? Tell us in the comments!
