'I'm kinda taking this year to try and reestablish and rebuild the label back,' Eminem tells 'RapFix Live.'
By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway
Eminem's Shady Records label was quite the monster in the early 2000s thanks to platinum albums from the likes of 50 Cent and D12. But just as Marshall reestablished his career with the release of his 2009 LP, Relapse, he also is out to revamp his imprint, with signees Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf.
On Wednesday, Eminem and Slaughterhouse member Royce Da 5'9" appeared on MTV's "RapFix Live," and the Shady CEO talked to Sway about his motivation to get his label back in motion.
"The whole Slaughterhouse thing and what Royce was doing when they formed that group, it was exciting to me just because, aside from the Detroit connection that I already had with Royce, to me it's just exciting for hip-hop because it's so new and fresh and different," Slim Shady said. "And also, at the same time, I feel like I'm kinda taking this year to try and reestablish and rebuild the label back too."
Part of the rebuild is Em's upcoming joint EP with Royce — the duo, who go by the name Bad Meets Evil, are preparing to drop Hell: The Sequel. With Slaughterhouse and Alabama rookie rapper Yelawolf in the fold, the Shady head talked about the "very fun, competitive-type atmosphere" that now exists around the label. "I need things like this to feed off of," Em explained.
Eminem, who is regarded as one of the all-time great rap lyricists, also revealed that things got so competitive while recording with Royce for Hell: The Sequel that he felt a bit of pressure. "There was a few moments on the EP where I really had to like — there were a couple of things that I wanted to go back in and rewrite once I heard his verse," he admitted.
Bad Meets Evil's Hell: The Sequel will hit stores on June 14, while Slaughterhouse say they hope to release their Shady Records debut around Christmas time.
What do you think of Shady's Slaughterhouse signing and the label's new acts? Tell us in the comments!

'You'll definitely see new music this year,' he says at South by Southwest.

AUSTIN, Texas — B.o.B's debut disc topped the Billboard albums chart and spawned a pair of smash singles, and, in the process, transformed him from a hotly tipped underground artist to one of the brightest stars in hip-hop.
As he begins work on the follow-up to The Adventures of Bobby Ray, is it possible for him to top that album's success? Even he doesn't know the answer to that question — but he's willing to give it his best shot.
"I would have to parallel my album coming out to losing your virginity," he told MTV News at the South by Southwest festival. "The first time you have sex is way more exciting than the second time. Not that the second time isn't exciting, it's just ... the initial excitement of finally having that first album.
"I think that people will definitely be surprised at the music they hear on the second album," he added. "I don't think they would expect that coming from me."
And while details of the new album are still scarce — switching from sexual metaphors to sports metaphors, B.o.B said he's "just at the end of the first quarter" of the recording process — he's already planning to give fans a taste of his new material very soon.
"There's probably going to be some surprises. There's no telling what the next three quarters will be like," he said. "We should be seeing something very soon. Even if not an album, you'll definitely see new music this year."
And though he might be changing things up for album number two, B.o.B isn't going to stray far from the concept that brought him so much success with Bobby Ray: Specifically, avoiding any and all preconceived notions of what hip-hop should be. Which, in one way, is probably going to make his album feel very much like the first time.
"You should never get comfortable," he said. "I feel like, for me, I embrace everything."
What do you expect B.o.B's next album to sound like? Tell us in the comments!

Scooter Braun, Biebs' manager, teases 'crazy' clip from F.A.M.E.

Chris Brown recently took the stage with Justin Bieber during the Biebs' tour stop in Australia, where they performed "Up," and now the two will begin work on a video for Brown's F.A.M.E. track "Next 2 You."
Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, confirmed the video plans on Twitter. "NP- #Next2You w/ @justinbieber and @chrisbrown - video treatment is crazy ... yeah it's coming!!" he wrote.
With little known about what these two have in store for fans, MTV News spoke to Brown in March about working with the teen star on the track. "Being able to collab with [Bieber] was great," Brown said. "He's a young, energetic cat, so being able to work with him, with the fanbase he has, was incredible. I know a lot of little girls are going to love this record.
"I wouldn't say [he's] my protégé. He's doing his thing at a young age, and I was doing mine at a young age, so being able to see him come up is dope."
The midtempo ballad is about the power of love and making the pledge to spend your life with that special someone. The chorus says, "One day when the sky is fallin'/ I'll be standing right next to you, right next to you/ Nothing will ever come between us/ 'Cause I'll be standing right next to you, right next to you."
While it's a feel-good track, Brown joked that when recording the song, he missed his chance to hit the studio with Bieber. "I actually stood him up on accident," Brown recalled. "He was kind of mad ... I was all the way on the other side of town handling some business, 'girl business,' and I was rushing back, and by that time, he's like, 'Man, I'm leaving, bro. I did it — just check it out.' And I looked at it and listened to it and I was like, 'Man, this is crazy.' ... He's a great kid."

'SNL' star gets a little creepy with the nominees in new promos for the show.
By Eric Ditzian
Ever since "Twilight" sank its fangs into the pop-culture landscape, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner have played major roles at the MTV Movie Awards. For the past few shows, they've appeared in movie spoofs, introduced exclusive franchise footage, kissed their co-stars and even accidently dropped a Golden Popcorn onstage.
For the 2011 Movie Awards, the actors decided to get involved in the action a little bit earlier. Not that they had a choice in the matter, as two new promo spots make clear. Host Jason Sudeikis follows up on his desire to meet the nominees before showtime (he's already shared face time with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Stone and Leighton Meester), and the "SNL" funnyman surprises the "Twilight" stars in some unlikely places.
In Stewart's clip, she has just settled in to get her hair cut, when Sudeikis pops into her dressing room. "You're not my hairdresser," she tells him. "Good eye!" he responds. But the two quickly hit it off, and it's not long before he's plopping a bowl on her head and snipping away. Say goodbye to Bella Swan's long locks!
In the other spot, Lautner hails a New York City cab, only to realize Sudeikis is behind the wheel, though he admits to being "a terrible driver." Lautner tries to escape, but the Movie Awards host locks the doors. "That's weird," the Twi-werewolf tells him. Weirder still is that Sudeikis confesses he stole the taxi, and as the police sirens swirl in the background, he leaves poor Taylor locked in the car plaintively crying, "Jason!"
Hopefully, he'll find his way out by June 5, when the 2011 MTV Movie Awards air live at 9 p.m. ET from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California. Voting in all categories, from Best Villain to Best Line from a Movie, is now under way at MovieAwards.MTV.com. Voting is set to close on June 4. But voting for Best Movie will stay open through the show itself, meaning you have the chance to affect the night's biggest winner up until the very last minute.
Will vampires and werewolves own the 2011 MTV Movie Awards? Can wizards or dream thieves steal the Golden Popcorn? Find out on June 5, when the 20th annual show airs live at 9 p.m. ET/PT. To get into the magical movie mood, we're kicking off a Sneak Peek Week starting on May 30 — five days of exclusives and interviews with the casts of "Fright Night, "Horrible Bosses" and more. Related Artists'We'd be beating them in basketball really hard, and they'd be chanting '17-10!' ' says Sean Foreman.
By James Montgomery
The guys in 3OH!3 may be best buddies these days, but back in high school, well, they were bitter rivals. Even though they didn't really know each other.
See, as teenagers, Nat Motte and Sean Foreman attended neighboring schools — Fairview High and Boulder High — in the suburbs of Colorado ... two schools that, naturally, competed head-to-head in sports. And though the two didn't become friends (and subsequently form 3OH!3) until they met at the University of Colorado, they both remembered their high school rivalry and tell us all about it on the next episode of MTV's "When I Was 17."
Though, to hear them tell it, the so-called "rivalry" was actually a bit one-sided.
"We went to rival high schools," Motte said. "Junior year of high school, we beat the Fairview Knights 17-10 [in football], and we lost consecutively in all other sports afterwards. But we would still chant '17-10!' "
"We'd be beating them in basketball really hard, and they'd be chanting '17-10!' " Foreman chuckled.
And though the dynamic duo were divided by crosstown rivalries, they did share a similar interest in the bizarre ... which is what ultimately brought them together.
"My high school started a video-production program, so we'd air both newscasts and kinda cool, creative videos on public access TV, channel 54," Motte said.
"My mom thought I was a real weirdo, but I would watch public access television, and I remember seeing awesome videos that Nat made. I was like, 'Man, I want to meet that kid!' " Foreman added. "So I'm going to University of Colorado-Boulder, and I take a physics class, and I'm sitting in the class and I'm like, 'Oh my God, it's the guy from TV!' ... and that's how we met."
And things have been golden ever since.
"It was a bromance for the ages," Motte laughed.
"When I Was 17" — this week featuring 3OH!3, Jordin Sparks And Jason Derulo — airs Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV.

When Ernie Halter put out a call to arms on his Twitter account for fans to come out to his O.C. show, he probably had no idea that one very famous fan would take him up on the offer. On Thursday night, when Halter played at La Cave Restaurant in Costa Mesa, California, he was surprised by Justin Bieber. The Biebs, who brought gal pal Selena Gomez as his date, even took the stage with the singer/songwriter.
"@justinbieber Now get some rest. I still can't believe you flew 11 hrs and drove an hour to surprise me. Wow. So honored. @justinbieber great meeting u & @selenagomez tonight. Def a night to remember. Thank you for the encouragement & for singing with me," Halter wrote on Twitter.
Bieber has covered Halter's track "Come Home to Me" in his own shows, and on Thursday night he sang the tune right alongside the singer, much to Halter's amazement.
"I'm speechless. @justinbieber and @selenagomez came to see me play tonight and Justin sat in. All I can say is wow," he wrote. "@scooterbraun Great meeting you and Karen tonight. What an awesome surprise! Rest up and hope to cross paths again soon. Cheers! @selenagomez you and Justin are so sweet. Pleasure meeting you both. I saw you singing along to my songs. Made my night that much better."
Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, also used Twitter to gush about the night. "I love surprises. We drove an hour out of LA to surprise @erniehalter at his gig. #awesome," he wrote.
Bieber also sent his love and support to Halter on the site. "@erniehalter thanks for the night. Glad we could surprise u. U r the real deal. Congrats to u and the wife. 'It's just blowing me away,' star Tyler Posey says of show's approaching June 5 debut on MTV.

HOLLYWOOD — While we're still about 10 moons away from the TV premiere of MTV's new series "Teen Wolf" (actually, it's on Sunday, June 5, after the MTV Movie Awards), the show's cast and crew celebrated with a beast of a premiere party at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on Wednesday night.
It was a reunion of sorts for the cast, who began production on the show more than a year ago. And when MTV News caught up with them on the red carpet, they were equally excited and anxious to unveil the series.
"Dude, it's surreal, man — like, I can't believe it was already over a year ago we filmed the pilot, and it's already here. The show premieres in 11 days, and it's just blowing me away," said actor Tyler Posey, who plays lead lupine character Scott McCall. "I cannot believe how fast it came, and I'm just so stoked. I can't even believe it."
Crystal Reed, who plays Allison Argent (Scott's love interest), was just as thrilled to be standing on the red carpet at the show's premiere party.
"It's really surreal," Reed said. "I drove up this morning and I drove by [Grauman's] Chinese Theatre, and I haven't been in Hollywood that long, and I was thinking about how the tourists view Hollywood — and I felt like that once. But I drove up to my own premiere, and I started crying a little, because it's just such a magical moment for us. And to be with these people, I absolutely, genuinely adore them. My castmates are the best people in the world."
While viewers will get their first look at Scott's full werewolf transformation on June 5, Posey recalled the first time he saw himself in the complete monster makeover.
"It was four and half hours to get in all the makeup," Posey said. "I remember thinking, 'Am I gonna have to do this every day, four and a half hours?' But I think the final look, dude, it's nuts. I was staring at myself for so long in the mirror. And then they would get me in the makeup, shoot, and people would be talking to me, having normal conversations, and I'd look in the mirror and I'd be like, 'How the hell are people having normal conversations with me right now? It's just so weird.' But yeah, it really — it totally gets me into character when I'm in that makeup."

Beyonce's 4
Photo: Columbia
After two showstopping performances of her song "Run the World (Girls)" earlier this week, Beyoncé knows how to keep the anticipation surrounding her new album, 4, high. On Wednesday morning (May 25), the superstar singer began to unveil the track list for the new LP via Facebook in a title-by-title hourly countdown.
Rounding out the 12-song album is B's lead single off the project, the Major Lazer-sampled tune "Run the World (Girls)." And Team Beyoncé was glad to know the track was still included in the set. "I love it. It's not usual Beyoncé but that's what makes her HOTT!" LaTisha Davis wrote. "B, you can make ANYTHING a hit! Loooove the track! Much respect Beyoncé! U KILLED it @ the Billboard Awards. Love u!!!"
Additional tunes on the album include "I Was Here," "End of Time" and "Countdown."
Fans likely already got a preview of the "End of Time" cut when a previously unheard Beyoncé song titled "Till the End of Time" hit the Internet late last week. If the songs match up, it'll satisfy many of the singer's admirers, including fan Kendra Long, who wrote, "I looooooove this song. This may be wrong to say, but I'm glad it leaked!"
King Lds Clandler was happy to hear the drum-heavy tune made the final cut, writing, "I love the song. I had it for a week and listen to it 20 times a day."
As for what else fans can expect from the pop titan's new album, Beyoncé previously stated in a press release that she was inspired by Afrobeat music pioneer Fela Kuti and lots of '90s R&B. "I listened to a lot of Jackson 5 and New Edition, but also Adele, Florence and the Machine, and Prince," she said. "Add in my hip-hop influences, and you can hear how broad it is. I also gave myself more freedom to really belt out some songs and bring soul singing back. I used a lot of the brassiness and grittiness in my voice that people hear in my live performances but not necessarily on my records."
Keeping her promotional bandwagon steady, the singer is reportedly set to perform on the highly anticipated season 10 finale of "American Idol" on Wednesday night (May 25).
